A recent NPR segment titled “Pope Leo’s religious community is drawing renewed interest. Here’s why it’s unique” offers a thoughtful window into the life and mission of the Augustinian order and it resonates deeply with the spirit we strive to live here at OMGC. You can read or listen to the segment at npr.org.
In the interview, Fr. Max Villeneuve, OSA helps listeners see what makes the Augustinian charism distinctive: its emphasis on community, friendship, shared journey, and theological reflection grounded in daily life. He shows how these aren’t just abstract ideals but lived realities — in monasteries, parishes, and schools alike.
OMGC families gathered after school on Friday for our annual Blessing of the Animals, marking the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Students brought dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and photos of pets to receive a special blessing and a sprinkle of holy water. Those who could not bring a pet shared pictures on paper or phones and lifted their companions in prayer.
Los Feliz Flea, the beloved outdoor market known for vintage, handmade, and local finds, is returning to its roots on Vermont Avenue with a grand reopening at OMGC on Saturday, October 4, 2025. The relaunch features over 180 vendors, a dynamic adidas Originals “Los Angeles” takeover activation, food, music, local art, and community spirit. Moving forward, the market will run every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturday at OMGC, and every 2nd and 4th Saturday at the nearby Masonic Lodge.
Pope Leo XIV sent a personal email with his blessing to Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. The message arrived after Fr. Max Villeneuve, OSA, reached out to share the centennial milestone. The blessing became a focal point of the parish’s September 6 celebration, which included a special Mass with Archbishop José H. Gomez.
