Students begin to serve Mass in the fourth grade. They will be notified when instruction is starting. Both boys and girls may train to be an altar server. This commitment is a privilege, honor, and responsibility to serve during Wednesday school liturgies and Sunday masses.
Part of the education at Our Mother of Good Counsel School is citizenship. Students in grades 5-8 can choose to be part of a campus-wide beautification team. This team takes pride in keeping their school clean and showing respect for their community and neighbors.

Our Mother of Good Counsel offers year-round student activities for students and parents who want to participate. Our school and community spirit is infectious!
School Buddies is a program developed in an effort to foster community, compassion and responsibility. Older students are paired with younger students for various activities, such as Mass, reading activities, iPad centers, and monthly crafts and lunch organized by Student Government.
Older students practice responsibility and maturity as they work with younger students who depend on their leadership and compassion. Younger students adore their big School Buddies and enjoy working with them at various times throughout the week. School Buddies meet at least once a week for academic or creative small group work. Teachers of both grades work collaboratively to prepare a lesson to meet academic and social needs of both grade levels.
Our Mother of Good Counsel School participates annually in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Students in Grades 1-8 participate in classroom spelling events and competitions during Catholic Schools' Week.
Students in Grades 4-8 participate in a school-wide spelling Bee in February.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee for our Los Angeles region is held in March at Hollywood High School.
