Below are some of our most frequently asked questions from families exploring Our Mother of Good Counsel School in Los Feliz.
Will my child be required to take an admissions test?
Yes. Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten applicants complete a readiness assessment, while applicants for other grades take math and reading placement tests. Required documents include a birth certificate, baptismal certificate (if applicable), immunization records, and recent report cards.
Does your school accommodate students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or disabilities?
Our Mother of Good Counsel School welcomes students of all abilities. While we do not provide formal IEP services, we work closely with families and public resources to support each child’s learning needs. Please contact the school office to discuss specific accommodations and how we can partner to ensure your child’s success.
What is your school schedule?
- Monday–Thursday: 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
- Friday: 8:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
- Weekly Mass: Wednesday
What does the curriculum include?
Our curriculum follows Archdiocesan and California State Standards and includes:
- Religion
- English Language Arts
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
- PE, Art, Music, and Theater
Does your school offer extended care?
Yes. After-school care is available daily until 6:00 p.m.
Does your school have a hot lunch program?
Yes. Our hot lunch program, provided by Children’s Menu, delivers fresh meals daily. Orders are placed online and finalized the night before. Students who do not participate are welcome to bring a nutritious packed lunch.
Are there extracurricular activities?
Yes. We offer arts, theater, and C.Y.O. after-school sports for grades 3–8, including volleyball, basketball, cross-country, and track & field.
Do students have daily religion classes?
Yes. Religion is taught daily, complemented by weekly liturgy and the seasonal Sacrament of Reconciliation.
What is the family service hour requirement?
Families complete 40 service hours each year. A buyout option is available for those unable to meet the requirement.
Are uniforms required?
Yes. Uniforms must be worn according to school guidelines.
Are there mandatory fundraisers for families?
No. Mandatory fundraisers have been replaced by our Annual Appeal, which invites voluntary contributions to support the school. Families are welcome—but not required—to participate in events and community fundraisers.
How is security and child safety ensured?
We maintain a closed campus and all visitors sign in at the front office on Ambrose Avenue. Post Security provides additional neighborhood patrols and is stationed on campus during school hours.
