Founded in 1933, Our Mother of Good Counsel School began with 36 students learning in two small cottages on Ambrose Street. Just four years later, a second house on Dracena Street was added to accommodate the growing 7th and 8th grade classes. Construction of the present school building began in 1949. From its beginning until 1968, the school was lovingly staffed by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and today continues its mission through the dedication of our lay faculty and staff.
In 2011, OMGC transitioned to the Common Core State Standards and expanded its use of technology through a generous donation that upgraded the school’s infrastructure and professional development. Two years later, the addition of a Transitional Kindergarten program allowed us to serve children as young as four, welcoming them into a lifelong journey of faith and learning.
Located just around the corner from Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish at 4622 Ambrose Avenue, Los Angeles, OMGC is a Catholic co-educational school for Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade with an emphasis on Christian values, academic excellence, and responsible citizenship.
Our mission to promote the growth of faith in Christ, academic excellence, and responsible citizenship is deeply inspired by the Augustinian charism of community, truth, and love. Guided by the teachings of St. Augustine, we seek God together in unity of mind and heart, forming students who learn to love deeply, think critically, and serve joyfully.
At OMGC, we live our mission through our school motto:
Love. Learn. Lead.
We love God and one another, learn with purpose and curiosity, and lead with faith and integrity.
